Buffy Quote Embroidery Hoop!

I love Buffy the Vampire slayer, I love the clothes, I love the stories and I REALLY! love Spike.

I also love Angel but I think spikes my favourite.... OMG just googled, Spike and Angel together, Their is some serious photo shopping skills out there!

Anyway apart from the fact that everybody who lives directly above a hellmouth appears to be all kinds of beautiful, I also love that one minute your watching an awesome fight scene and the next Joss Whedon [the writer] hits you with something incredibly poignant and accurate. Like this:  

"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it" 

I mean you can't do that Joss! I came here to see awesome fight scenes and crush on Buffys wardrobe! You can't make me FEEL things!

 But it is awesome and definitely worthy of some embroidery action! I also love the speech from the episode "passions" but it's really long!

Anyway its an old hoop, and some scrap fabric and just some simple embroidery cottons from stash. It was a pretty quick project actually I made it whilst waiting for Rikki to come home from his night shift. He thought he might get an early finish like 12.00am, so I waited up and got some stitching done too. [I also watched a film called "her" that was about a guy falling in love with a computer. It got freaky pretty quickly, and by freaky I mean "freaky"]

I decided to make the word Live stand out by doing it in chain stitch, otherwise known as my favourite of all the embroidery stitches!!!

And I tried to do a font kind of thing, but it was hard because I was free handing it!

And yeah, pretty simple, hopefully when we move I might find a little nook to hang this in!

Yes I also harbour love for Xander and Giles, Omg Giles! I bet he knows how to make a cracking brew!

New threads!

Do you want to know a secret? When I first starting blogging about sewing and properly sewing again I think I owned about five reels of thread. Mainly I used black and white becuase they were the cheapest and I didn't and still don't have a fortune to spend on my hobby!

After a while I gathered a few more colours and I was lucky enough that my pen friend sent me a few spools and that my aunty got me a thread and bobbin kit for Christmas.

But recently I got really lucky!

I've been given all of these threads! Should keep me going for a while shouldn't it! 

They are all different sizes and colours and I think most of them are polycotton (I know some sewing purests wouldn't dream of using polycotton thread but I ain't no snob, as long as it runs through my machine Im happy!)

For those of you wondering how you get a large spool to stay on your machine I don't I sit it in a mug next to my machine and it works like a dream! 

In other news I've also been given some fabric which I'm currently washing and hallelujah I finished my shirt, last night I did the collar hem and button holes soni plan on photographing that at some point. Hopefully I can get my groove back soon , I think I might start with some easier sewing projects so i don't have to think too much!

Is there any gift greater, than the gift of fabric?

I've been gifted some more fabric folks! A lady who I used to belly dance with was de stashing and was kind enough to think of me!!! 

There's some upholstery weight pieces. 

Some nice silky stuff that I already have plans for ! 

Lots of floral strips about 10cm wide which will be perfect for quilting projects! 

But the best part was this! 

She sent me threads! I LOVE THREADS! What a lovely lady! It's so nice when people pass on things they don't need or won't use to others! I recently gave my sister a square of velvet so she could make herself a new coin purse! 

Seems like karma might be making its rounds!

Finished cushion.

so I've finished another custom order for a cushion.

you've seen this embroidery before but know its all sewn up! The idea is that the little girl is the client herself wearing a coat her father brought her from his winnings from a competition.

Anyway her mum kept the buttons and then the client herself decided to get rib of her button stash (guess who helped there!) but wanted to keep these three buttons because they are special!

She want it incorporated into something for her home and before I heard the story I was going to go in a completely different direction!

Anyway it was lots and lots of fun to crack out the old embroidery skills again and to do something that's so personal!

More buttons!

Okay so if you've read this blog before you'll know about my love of buttons! I mean BUTTONS! Anyway momma Knitwit picked up this lil cracker for me from a charity shop recently! 

A coffee jar filled with buttons (she knows the way straight to my heart!) 

 

Here's some personal favourites:

Some kind if military button

I actually think these are pretty chic! 

APPLES! how stupidly adorable are these!!

She also picked me up some super wide lace and gave me some zips!!! 

And I picked up these whilst we were out together! 

Three reels if cotton for a pound? Can't really go wrong there can you? 

I always find it's worth having a dig around in charity shops! Especially seen as the really crafty generation are starting to die out. (Gosh that's a bit morbid!) 

In other news I started a new dress, and haven't screwed up the pattern matching too badly! I'm just waiting for mr postman to deliver my invisible zip foot (please fit my machine) and then I can blog it.

He plays play station and I sew, we don't speak, we just silently accompany each other....

The title pretty much sums up me and mr Knitwit during lil knitwits nap time! 

It gives me a good chance to embroidery or knit and fully relax, just me and my thoughts! 

This is what I'm working on at the moment. 

I started it just before Christmas, but I have no idea what it's called it's basically white stitches on white fabric with wadding In between, I originally thought it was called white work but I'm pretty sure that's to do with lace? 

It's good fun though and it's nice not to have to think about colour! After all wouldn't life but a lot easier if everything was black and white?! 

I free handed the design using one old my traditional embroidery books as inspiration! 

In other news lil knits transitsion back to nursery went smoothly, and we got Netflix! YAY! I love a good box set! 

I've already started on gossip girl (which gives me major clothing envy! And hair envy! And well everything envy! 

And me and mr Knitwit have started American horror story, we watched episode 1 last night and well it's a bit strange! But it does had Connie Britton, who also gives me hair envy! 

Any other TV series recommendations?

Mister postman

I hate receiving parcels! I'm a stay at home mum yet they always seem to come just when I've popped out! And yesterday when I was visiting momma I missed not one but two! Deliveries! Luckily the Hermes delivery person came back so I revived my new look goodies last night but I had to traipse to the post office this morning to get my hobbycraft parcel! And it's a massive pain in the bum bum because there are only two parking spaces! But I've got my parcel now so all is well! 

And here's what I got! (I had a gift card as a Christmas present) 

 

It's all pretty boring really! Ball point needles and standard needles. 

Bright pins! 

Some needles and thread! 

And two new zips! All pretty standard stuff but necessary all the same! 

And at least now the new megan I cut out last night will have a zip!

Tools of the trade

A wise man once told me that a workman is only as good as his tools , so I thought I'd let you have a little look at the items which "live" on my sewing table! 

Starting from the top we have:

My tape measure - my grandmothers, one side has inches and cms the other has the calorie content of most foods, I'm assuming that she liked to sew and diet at the same time. I on the other hand like to have a plate of biscuits close by! 

A bobbin and spool of white thread - thread wise I'm fairly boring to be honest I usually use white or black so have two separate bobbins, I only used matching thread if the project really calls for it! 

Metal rular - mr Knitwit picked this little beauty up for me , it's lovely and heavy so it doesn't shift about! 

Rotary cutter - genuinely don't how how I've survived for this long without one! It makes cutting so much quicker! 

Automatic button hole foot - when it not on my sewing table it lives with my buttons! Another item I'm not sure I could live without! 

My whiskey bin! - what can I say I'm a classy bird! Most of my stray thread end up in here , the others transport their way round the house via people's socks. 

My needle tin - also my grandmothers, all my needles live in here machine, darning and handwork varieties as well as a half penny to stop me hurting my fingers! 

Hand seeing thread - I stupidly brought some very cheap thread, it doesn't go through my machine but it works very nicely for handwork! 

My little tub of tailors chalk - I hate the stuff, generally I don't use chalk but every now and again I find that I have to. 

Floral scissors - brought for me by an old friend, scissors are a sewers best friend and I love these bad boys! 

Plastic ruler - for quick bits and pieces

Voodoo pin cushion - for the days when it's either torture an inanimate object or throw my machine out of the window.

Mini sketch book - for those beautiful moments when inspiration strikes, I also keep all my measurements in here! 

And underneath everything is my lovely cutting matt! I love how tidy everything looks on this! 

In other news my kimono got to have an outing with my best friend! 

I had a great night of letting my hair down and putting the world to rights! And I felt surprisingly dressy to say I was wearing an old sarong!
