Trying Tapestry

I'd love to say its been a slow week, but it hasn't! I've started three new projects and cleaned up the sewing room (turns out I own 23 zips, funny how none of them are ever right for the projects at hand! )

my other projects are:

clothes/embroidery/refashion = think cowboy meets a hippy

shoes/refashion/drawing = think mental thoughts

and this bad boy

That folks is a tapestry, or at least I think it is, I'm still having difficulty with the difference between cross stitch and tapestry, I think its just because one uses silks and the other wool!

Anyway little knitwits godfather saw this and thought I might like to give it a go, it came with all the wools but not instructions!

According to the paper with it, its a copy of one of the old masters pictures? Anyway I'm completely winging it, I tried cross stitching but it just looked messy so I'm doing rows of back stitch. Its more relaxing than I thought it would be but I still think its going to take a long time. just to clarify does anybody know what stitch your actually meant to do with tapestry?

I'm not 100% what ill do with the finished product but I'm sure I'll think of something.

In other news i saw these awesome shoes on pinterest and I'm now dreaming of my own little version!

I'm going to keep my eyes open for cheap tape measures and have a good rummage through my old shoes, see if I cant breathe some life back into them!

I also think I'm going to try and finish the blouse I cut out like two months ago, mainly because it was sat judging me when I was cleaning up my sewing space today,

"where you gonna put me Frankie? cant put me with fabric can you, I'm not fabric I'm pieces of fabric, cant hang me in your wardrobe I'm not finished! so yeah I might have to finish it! I just find it hard after reading to awesome instructions from Tilly's book to switch back to the sparse instructions of other books! Although this has been written by thrifty stitcher so I'm expecting good things!

I at least want to get it done before I start sewing the new pencil skirt I'm envisioning, I wear my wool check one all the time but its a bit too toasty for warmer days so I'm going to use the last of my tartan poly cotton for Minerva fabrics and make myself a summer version.

Much Love

Another day another row

So summer has finally decided to arrive, and thank god! It's nice to give my winter wardrobe a break! And it's perfect timing as my jeans torn in the knee last week! So now I can wait till my birthday to replace them and just wear pretty summer dresses until then!

Anyway here at knitwits HQ a few things have been happening although the nothing major.

•I've been working on custom orders,

•i've changed my books over for fresh ones , basically I own a LOT of books and we have zero space for them so me and Mr knitwits came up with a deal, all my reference books stay downstairs in a big box behind the chair, and my literature stays in our loft, then I have 20 or so books that I keep on a bookshelf in the bedroom and I rotate them when I get bored.

At first I hated this system, but then I began to appreciate it, I realised I had got lazy with my reading and was just rereading the same books over and over! Now I'm forced to Broaden my horizons (plus it forced me to finish vanity fair!)

• I've been playing around with the lilou bodice and am currently sewing up my changes (fingers crossed I finish it tonight) so I can blog it tomorrow, hopefully with some sort of brief tutorial on how to alter pattern pieces to create new necklines.

• but currently im sat in our man room, whilst little knitwit slumbers in his bedroom after a hard day at nursery and Mr knitwit slumbers after a night shift. so I'm adding more rows to my English paper pieced quilt.

I've got this whole EPP thing down to a fine art now, I have two bags that I cart around the house and they contain all my supplies! I even took them shopping last week on the off chance that little knitwit napped in the car, so I'd have something to do whilst he quietly snoozed! He didn't but it was nice to be prepared.

Technically there are other things I could be doing whilst my boys sleep, but I like to convince myself that ironing is very loud and I would want to risk waking them up!

Much love

But I'm bored!

Mr knitwit has a whole week off! His Rita now works so that every third week he has a huge chunk of time off! It's lovely, and also really bloody annoying. It's kind of like having a child during the summer holidays "I'm bored" , "there's nothing on TV", "what shall we do today?", "I'm hungry" so yes it's lovely spending time together but it's also like having two children!

It's also means I haven't had much time for sewing, I've got a jacket half made but I've decided to finish it differently so that's waiting. And I've got a dress to blog about I just need to find the motivation to iron it and photograph it!

My knittings been pretty slow going as well, I'm starting to regret those extra 50 stitches!

In other news! I went out for a lovely dinner with lil knitwit my parents, my sister and her husband! I actually tried something different on the menu (I'm notoriously  stuck in my ways) and lil knitwit tried, mayonnaise, brown sauce and mustard. He was NOT a fan of the mustard.

And my sister took this lovely photo of us together

Whilst my mother opted to capture these moments.

And then she decided to post them to Facebook

My street cred is in tatters.....

She did manage to capture this sleep though so I might forgive her!

"Mummy look it's a hand!"

Much love

A very uncrafty

For the moment at least
