The Phoenix from the ashes!

I remade my Robert dress! Into a pencil skirt!

Please prepare yourself for some awkward posing!

I used the pencil skirt pattern from the second sewing bee book. But added a suede waistband.

I also added a good couple if inches to the front panels (which I cut separately) so I could make a front button placket! And omitted the zip. (Read: I didn't have a brown zip)

I had to squeeze the pattern peices onto the fabric hence the waistband and the suede panel that I attached to the bottom and topstitched.

Still not sure have that blooming back vent is supposed to work though! Stupid instructions! I really should google it, anybody have any ideas how the vent for this pattern works?

This one seems to fit better than my blue version, probably because it's not a stretch fabric. The buttons are vintage, my lovely momma brought me back a big bag of brown buttons from a vintage fair she went to recently. All my buttonholes went in easy bar one, that one is a wonky  mess but seen as I don't plan on wearing this with the buttons undone I don't see it as a major issue, and after unpicking it twice I wasn't going to torture mysf once more for the sake of a bit of wonky ness.

I lined the waistband with a pretty heinous scrap of quilting cotton, it's peeking out though so some top stitching might be required.

I think I like it, I'm not sure if it reminds me of something of the late eighties early nighties?

I'm not in love with it but I don't hate it?

Let's put it this way, I like it much better than what it previously was (Robert dress) but I don't like it as much as my delphine skirt in the same fabric, then again I didn't like that in the beggining!

Much love

Finished Delphine!

Its finished! Even after my embarrassing sewing the wrong sides together incident!

And as promised we have some gawky photos! I feel like my awkward side was really on form today!

As I said yesterday I used the very last of my Grandad Robert fabric! Which kind of makes me a little sad but happy at the same time!

I tried my very hardest to stick to the instructions! (apart from with the zip, but I wasn't going to let my lack of an invisible zip and a zipper foot slow me down!)

and I think it turned out okay! well at least I'm pleased with it! sadly I don't have any pictures of the inside but I am SUPER proud of my waistband stitching! I stitched in the ditch for the first time ever and boy I stitched that ditch good!

The only trouble I've really had is styling it! I'm actually wondering if I should hem it again and make it an inch or two shorter! I tired it with a couple of tops, including my Breton stripe cardigan and my lovely sheer blouse! but I just kept looking like a librarian (probably because I never usually wear this style) so in the end I opted for Mr Knitwits white shirt ( he never wears this shirt because it makes him look like he's done a bunk from school! Oh the pains of having a baby face!)

Right so I LOVE this pattern its beautifully written and I love that it only requires a small amount of fabric! I'm not sure if its entirely my style but I have plans to wear it tomorrow for the nursery run so I guess ill just have to see how comfy I feel! I know I want to make at least one more! Mainly because I have an awesome idea for a variation provided I can find the right fabric!

I'm so glad I decided to work through Love at First Stich at a steady pace, I can actually feel myself getting better and more confident in what I'm doing! Which is awesome!

Much Love

OWOP Day 1

Today's a bit chilly so in wearing the second of my simplicity 4070 dresses (which I'm lovingly calling my Robert dress) and doing some layering!!

Apologies for the picture , it's pretty hard to get a decent shot! So we have:
• Robert dress
• red cowl neck jumper (hand me down from sister in law)
• worlds thickest red tights (possibly pretty polly)
• boots (Car boot)
• ring , Claire's accessories

So that's how I've styled it today, I'm hoping it's less chilly tommorrow otherwise I'll be spending the whole week under jumpers and you won't see the dresses!

Accessories wise I've opted for a chunky ring!

Happy owoping

Much love
