Preparing For Halloween

I'm a firm believe that you should start talking about Christmas until Halloween is over. And i love Halloween! No seriously i think i trick or treated until i was about 13 and after that i took my niece and nephew and now i take lil knitwit. In fact i love Halloween so much we considered having a Halloween wedding, complete with red roses and scary movie centre pieces. However i read somewhere that if you marry of all hallows eve your marriage will be plagued by the ghosts of your mistakes.

and trust me i don't want none of my mistakes following me around.

But anyway i love Halloween and i love dressing up, so this year i decided to make myself a Halloween dress to go trick or treating in! [lil knitwit is going to be a vampire!]

So without further ado! [by the i know this is super early but i think this kind of dress is perfect for people who want to wear something halloweeny bu don't necessarily want to dress up.]

So the dress is the lilou pattern from love at first stitch, which i can nearly make in my sleep. Theres not really much to say about it that Ive not already said, I love the pattern and i think its perfect for displaying fun prints and fabrics.

a quick word on the zip, I used the same technique i used for my grown up dress and it turned out pretty good even if i did have to unpick and re stitch the lining twice because my stitches were getting trapped in the zip.

Skirt wise i was tempted to do a gathered one again, but the idea of gathering all that fabric made me want to scream so instead i did a series of pleats about an inch and a half wide [which i didn't measure, at all, because I'm a rebel and stuff]

By the way , like my makeup? i thought id get into the Halloween spirit of this post by making myself look like a sugar skull. it took about 15 minutes to do and about an hour to take off. in fact i did my makeup before dinner and Mr knitwit was crying with laughter when i had to eat my dinner wearing it!

I got the fabric for this dress from abakhans, and was reliably informed by the girl on the till that it was very popular that day, in fact she'd brought some herself. The print is by Alexander Henry and is called "crafty cavalearas" or something like that.

The print includes fun things like sugar skull pumpkins and skeletons and skulls and stuff. Its a very Gothic and fun print. and because of the scale and the busyness of the print i didn't bother pattern matching.

its actually this print but in a plum colour.

All in all i love it! and although i said its for Halloween i can see myself wearing it a lot!!!

However i might tone down the makeup for Halloween i don't want to make lil knitwit cry or big knitwit for that matter!

Much Love

I wanna be the very best!

As promised here is lil knitwits Halloween costume (he didn't want his picture taken!)
He didn't want to be a ghost/mummy/vampire/skeleton/Frankenstein

He wanted to be a Pokemon! It's his favourite show at the minute. Now I know your suppose to be scary at Halloween but he wanted to be a Pokemon trainer and I tend to think there's enough scary things in the world as it is!

Sadly he didn't get many sweets becuase nobody was opening doors in our area! Which upset me a bit considering we give out sweets every year! Anyway after I had texted mr Knitwit how disappointed we had both been (little Knitwit actually started crying becuase no one was answering the door)  he came in from his night shift with some extra sweeties for little Knitwit and some flowers for me!

Anyway even though Halloween was a disaster I thought I'd show you what I've been working on!

I seem to be getting into the habit of making my mum something every year! What can I say she loves Christmas! Althought she might get a little something else this year aswell becuase I made this up as an example for an order!

Anyway how was your Halloween?

Much love

Pumpkin!

It's Halloween guys! This is where to ghosts and ghouls come out to play! Anyway I shall be detailing what lil Knitwit will be dressed as tommorrow becuase I haven't quite decided yet! Bad I know!

But we did carve our pumpkin yesterday! As per tradition! I picked and hollowed out the pumpkin and my Knitwit carved it according to my design!

Here's our pumpkin in the beggining! (Yes I chose the biggest one I could find!)

And here's it carved! I brought a candle to go into it today so I shall be posting a photo of it on Instagram later!

Then I made pumpkin soup in my slow cooker ! I chucked in loads of pumpkin, two potatoes, a big carrot, a tomato and the last of the sweet corn!

Wanna know who hates pumpkin soup? Mr Knitwit!

Wanna know who else hates pumpkin soup? Me!!!!

Our hopes rested on young Knitwit!

Especially seen as we had three cartons of the dammed stuff!

Wanna know who likes pumpkin soup!? Not little Knitwit, little bigger spat it all over my floor!

Dammit!

Anyway apart from that I've been embroidering Christmas stocking decorations!

I have 16 to do! Best crack on!

Much love

Starting on Delphine!

Okay so today I.......

Got ready to visit my big sister

Selfies happened!

Visited my sister took a good look at the pattern we will be making together!

Consumed Krispy kremes

Watched little Knitwit play drums

And traced and started cutting out the delphine skirt from love at first stitch!

I managed to squeeeeeeeze it out of the last of my grandfathers suit material!!! (Which kind of makes me sad becuase now I only have scraps left )

I cannot believe this pattern only requires one metre of fabric! And in my humble opinion more patterns should use this amount! It's gonna make for a very purse friendly pattern!

I've cut all if the pieces now and in itching to start sewing!

I hate it when I have to stop and start however it does mean I take more care and pride in what I'm doing so end up with a better garment!

Now I just need to decide what to do as my variation! After having a good wardrobe rummage, I'm desperately trying to make myself some more wearable clothes! Especially with winter coming!

I also made a start on little knitwits Halloween costume! I was going to buy one but they all just look so cheap and tacky and there never seems to be much for boys his age! They are either terrifying or babyish! And he didn't want to be anything scary (actually he wanted to be a football but we've compromised)

Anyways hopefully I'll have a finished delphine to show you tommorrow!

Much love

Frankie
