Thoughts on #MMMAY16

Its over! There will no longer be a constant stream of selfies taking over my instagram [lol there definitely will be] and I have the complete freedom to wear anything from my wardrobe!

But what have I learnt from a month of wearing me made everyday?

1- I have more stuff than I realised:

I didn't actually have too repeat too many outfits this month, and usually I only repeated them because I loved the outfit itself not just out of necessity.

2- I have a good mix of clothes:

In my head I only make impractical dresses, But after wearing them they are not impractical they're just pretty! I've got quite a few skirts which is good and lots of dresses, I'd like to make a few more casual tops like my Cami one and maybe a few long sleeve jersey tops.

3- I definitely chose the right colour for my Miette cardigan

Being that it was my first "real" knitting project and the first time I'd actually spent money of nice wool that didn't put my teeth on edge. I was having kittens when It came to making the colour decision. Originally I was going to knit it in grey but the purple just kept looking at me [hypothetically of course, I was on-line shopping] and I ended up with that! Luckily for me It goes with 60% of my wardrobe and the other 40% can be worn with one of my other cardis.

4- I need warmer tights

Its not so bad now but when the weather was really chilly my poor legs were frozen on the nursery run. I've heard good things about fleece lined tights so it might be time to invest.

5- I need to make doubles of some of my favourite items:

Ie, the Cami top and my lightweight kimono top, Which means I need some lightweight sarongs, I've been dropping hints to my mother [who has a very large collection] but she's either ignoring me or hasn't picked up on them......... [trust me the way I hint, she's definitely picked up on them] So I might have a charity shop peruse and see what I can find.

6- I don't need to make "basics"

Its take me a while to come to this conclusion. For a long time I thought I only wanted to wear me made items including things like basic black tops and skirts. But I already have these things, and I tend to get a lot of these types of things given to me. So I think I've finally decided that I'm just going to make fun things that I wouldn't be able to get in the shops or that are too expensive in the shops.
I mix, me made, charity shop, hand me downs and new stuff.... and I'm okay with that.

This skirt broke in  the wash, the zip split and the back seam came completely apart. So now I have to fix it [sad face]

7- It might be worth upping my finishing game on garments

I realised I'm put off wearing a garment because the inside finish isn't great. Which is bizarre because I don't usually take my clothes off in tesco so I'm not sure how anyone will see it?

My finish isn't awful but I can definitely see room for improvement. I want to start adding my own labels, finishing my seams nicely, and doing a finish on my zip seams. Hopefully one day Ill have a lovely little over locker to do all this for me! [Prays to Jesus for over locker]

8 - My face is okay....

It was on day four that I was struck down with an eye infection that meant I had to take a break from contacts and get some.......[use tense music]
GLASSES!

After sulking and crying and generally being a bit of a child about it, I think I'm finally used to them.

I think part of that is the fact that I was taking daily selfies for me made may, which meant I had to get used to having a pair of glasses perched on my nose. And surprisingly I quite like them! To the point when my contact lens ban is finally up, I might go half and half and wear my glasses more. To be honest to only thing that's annoying me about my glasses at the moment is that they get wet in the rain [I mean seriously this isn't a problem we've fixed yet?] and that the steam up in the bathroom [Shaving without being able to see, now that's a party!]

8- Wearing me made makes me feel all kinds of SASSY!

This was sort of a weird one for me, to say I do worry about my seams popping whilst I'm wearing me made it does make me feel VERY VERY SASSY! I'm sure how to describe it, but its really nice to feel confidence in yourself because of something you've made!

I think its the same as when you have your hair done and you step out of the chair and start walking like the love child of Heidi Klum and Beyonce because you are just all the fabulous!!!

And that all of my thoughts on me made may!

Ive really enjoyed it this year and its really opened y eyes to what I'm wearing and what works!

#MMMAY16 roundup week four!

Its drawing to a close! I've actually been really enjoying wearing me made clothes so far.... apart from this morning when I just felt like I had nothing to wear and couldn't really be arsed. Note to self: make more comfy clothes for chillin!

Day 22

Heman Lilou dress, not much to say really, its a fun dress but the fit on the straps isn't great [luckily I've amended the pattern piece now so I don't have this problem any more.

Day 23

Jersey dress and denim corset top,

Must make another dress like this! SO COMFY! loving the corset top but it does need some repair work doing to it!

Day 24

Refashioned shirts into shirtdress!

Damm did I feel sassy on this day, My hair was working the dress looked cute! we went to the shops! I had a pretzel! Great day and it really sold this dress for me!

Day 25

This is the day lil man conned me into letting me have a day off nursery because he said he felt poorly and I definitely felt poorly. I had a cute dress picked out but then I was hot and cold and snotty so ended up in this cami top. I also wore my sewcialist jumper a lot when I couldn't get warm!

Day 26

Faces dress, still felt poorly but went to my mum and dads so I could drop off his bday present [ And so they could feed lil man and so I wouldnt have to walk to nursery again] I was suppose to be helping to fix my brothers patchwork quilt but felt awful and ended up coming home early.

Day 27

Lil man and Big man catch my bug! HA! both of then spend the day feeling sorry for themselves I wore a knitted cardigan and an unblogged [So far] Delphine skirt in tartan!

Day 28

Pansy print dress [again] couldn't find anything to wear, ended up in this.

#MMMay16 week 3

This really should have gone up yesterday but I was so busy it just didn't happen!

Day 15

Striped lilou dress, Pretty sure I wasn't feeling it this day and that lil man was being especially needy. also Miette cardigan!

Day 16

Mimi Blouse I had to change out of this halfway through the day because I did the washing up and got most of the water on me and was like oh hello bra!

Day 17

Delphine skirt, I still love this skirt but I am a bit nervous that its too short, I wore this to take lil man to the hairdressers which was an awkward experience to say the least [the hair dresser was crying, no idea why but she was]

Day 18

velvet circle skirt, In fact this was a full outfit repeat from the first week because I love how it all looks together!

Day 19

GBSB blouse, love this blouse but I had originally wanted to wear a dress but I had terrible stomach cramps [insert sad feel sorry for me face here] Its also the morning after I played taxi driver to my father in law, brother in law and friend! So I was tired and in pain!

Day 20

My latest dress, princess seam bodice which an African wax cotton fabric, I like this and it held up to a days wear so I'm happy!

and as a bonus as I was cake baking I wore this!

a me made apron! I really want to make new ones of these for me and lil man but I'd like them to match!

and finally day 21!

This is a very tired picture I took late at night. Basically lil man woke up at six so I got up with him, then rikki got up at 9, we all had brews in bed, then onto asda for the big shop, then home, I cleaned the fridge and put the shopping away [I always clean the fridge before I put fresh shopping in] have dinner, wrap presents, get ready to go out, Meet everyone for 50th birthday meal, play in wacky, eat food, eat cake, drink wine, more wacky play, snuggle baby, go home, look at state of house, want to die.

It doesn't seem like a lot but I had a awful headache so I spent most of the day counting down the minutes until my next painkiller!

But the cake I made went down very well! So that's a bonus!

  Only 9 days left now!!!!

#mmmay week 2 round up!

So here's my thoughts on what I've been wearing this week!

Day 8

Kimono jacket, cannot get over how much I wear this, It works as a casual jacket and a dressed up one! Need to make another!!!!

Day 9

Cami top in Singapore cotton and slouch cardigan! Another winner love this outfit so much!!!

Day 10

scissor print skirt, when I first made this I sorted felt meh about it, which is a shame because I really love this print! But I worse this whilst spending the day with my bestie and my god daughter and I fell back in love with it!

Day 11

Gingham check dress with lace waistband! LOVE THIS DRESS! thats all I really have to say abot this!

Day 12

Ditsy Print shirt, Okay so I love this , BUT I wore it with skinny jeans and my blue trench coat on the way to nursery and caught sight of myself in a shop window and I just looked like such a mum. Like one of those posh mums who only buys organic food, has a cleaner , drives a four by four and is "an absolute monster" if she doesn't get her morning cappuccino!. All in all Its just not my style, so in an effort to wear it more often Im going to try and make a nice youthful skirt to go with it, in like a blue or a pink!

Day 13

Brown suede wrap skirt, Love this! felt like a looked pretty awesome, first wear since I made it!

Day 14

Singapore Print Cotton dress, love this also its first wear, its been waiting for summer so its nice to wear it!

So I'm two weeks in and going strong! this is usually where it all falls apart!

Much Love

Me Made May 2016

Its that time of year again folks! That time of the year when I do my up most to wear something I've made every day of the month!

Basically for me made may you make up your own pledge to wear handmade clothes for a certain amount of time during the month of may [it depends on your circumstances and how much me made stuff you have which is why you make your own pledge.] More information can be found by clicking on the link.

So without further ado here's my pledge:

'I, Frankie of www.knitwits-owls.blogspot.co.uk , sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May '16. I endeavour to wear at least one handmade or upcycled item each day for the duration of May 2016 good weather allowing'

I added a weathering allowing clause this year because last year I ended up having to give up because it was cold and soggy and my handmade clothes were not practical for the nursery run, especially in the rain! Although I guess that did give me a kick up the backside to make more practical clothing and not just party dresses etc.

So I've actually started my mmmay prep already and by prep I mean washing and iron all of my handmade clothes ready for the first of may! I do tend to wear a lot of handmade stuff anyway so I guess its a good opportunity to re-explore my ready to wear wardrobe throughout april! And to see if there's anything I want to recreate afterwards!

With regards to documenting it, I might do daily selfies on instagram although I'm not sure how easy that will be as we don't have a full length mirror in our house [I know I'm so deprived!, Its a wonder I look as fabulous as I do.....] And then I might do a round up of my weeks outfits every 7 days on the blog.

And then when its all over I'll review what I loved wearing what I hated and where i need to add more to my wardrobe!

Should be FUN!

much love

Frankie
