Team Colours

This week has been weird, on the one hand it's half term so we've had lots of fun

Making pancakes for dinner

And baking cakes ! Playing toys and having lazy cuddles in bed. But on the other hand I'm feeling fed up. Probably because im spending most of the day with a small child and not really getting out much, or getting much grown up contact.  In fact I'm terribly excited for tomorrow becuase not only will Rikki be here in the morning were also having visitors! YAY! People!

I think the lack of sewing time has effected my mood aswell. There's only so much you can do with a four year old running around and I always worry he'll hurt himself. Luckily there has been time for knitting when lil man has been engrossed in toys.

These booties are for rikkis cousin, in his teams colours. I always think men get the short straw when babies are born. Nearly all of our gifts were handed to me and I opened a fair few of them. In fact some people even got me gifts but didn't get Rikki anything which is a shame considering how well he looked after us both.

So these were designed just with the babies daddy in mind. I've been pottering making some other bits too, but we don't yet know the sex of the baby so I'm having to do everything in two colours!!!

Oh the things I do to give handmade!!

So yeah finishing these cheered me up a bit , and we're going to walk to the shops in a bit for some things. Although the weather is putting me off. Both me and lil man hate rain with a passion!!!

Much love

Toy story box cake review!

Lil Knitwit is a teensy bit obsessed with you story at the moment so when he saw this cake kit in the supermarket he asked very politely if he could "make it"

Now I should probably mention that I grew up in a house where cakes/cookies/biscuits were made from scratch! You weighed your own flour and measured your own chocolate.

In fact my only previous experience with box cakes is when my dad brought me back one from the supermarket to try. This says everything really, my dad went to the supermarket, which means my mum was elsewhere, and I think my sister helped with the oven, I don't remember my brother being there which means I was probably being distracted from my mum and brothers absence. Lord knows what happened there!

Anyway this is what the kit contained..

Cases, two bags that would look out of place on an episode of border patrol and

Sugar decorations!

All we had to do was add an egg and water to the "cake mix" and whisk it all up!

Ummmm appetising ?

We then spooned a pretty watery mixture into cake cases) and bake for 15 mins!

Not bad!

Next we made up the icing using the cocaine oops icing package and some water. And stuck on the decoration!

VERDICT

Taste : I've had better and I've sure as hell had worse 5/10
Mess : barley any mess 9/10
Learning : we didn't get to weigh or measure anything , so lil Knitwit didn't really learn anything from these cakes 2/10
Fun : lil Knitwit missed making a mess, and sifting the flour, he also couldn't work out why there was no sugar (already in packet) and why we didn't use magic drops (vanilla essence), it was also too easy! Baking is usually a morning activity but these couldn't have taken longer than half an hour in total 3/10

So all in all would I buy them again?

Nope not really, although they were good value £1 (10p per cake) I think I'd rather pay the extra and take advantage of the learning possiblities (weighing and measuring) as well as the feeling of actually making things!

And I guess I'll just have to put up with the mess!

What your experience of box cakes?

Much love

Sleepy owl nearly finished!

Okay so this post is going to be a bit of a mash up! For starters we have this...

I finished the stitching on my owl embroidery, and I kind of like it? I think it needs a little bit of something so I'm going to start adding beads ASAP!

I also had 50 sheets of tissue paper delivered so I can start tracing the Megan dress from love at first stitch! Now I just need to get my hands on the correct length of zip and I can make a start!

We made cookies using a recipient from the disney sweets and treats magazine, but we substituted the nuts, raisins and more nuts, for chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!

Oddly enough they look just like the cookies my mum makes.

And I parcelled up some deliveries!

This pictured doesn't show on of my cushions that I sold on etsy last week.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing piles of these tissue wrapped orders!

Comfort

It never rains but it pours, I've had some bad news today about a family member, and needed something simple to seek comfort in. And to take my mind off things. So in a moment of madness I added the last two triangles to the quilt I've been doing for the past three years.

It maybe took me 15-20 minutes to add those last two triangles?

The entire quilt top is done using English paper piecing, and guys I know it ain't pretty. In fact I'd probably go as far as to say it's the most hideous quilt top I've ever seen, but it is full of memories.

Work shirts
Party dresses
Baby shirts
Grown up shirts

Its going to be the official poorly quilt, and will be perfect for telling stories to little Knitwit for when he isn't feeling his best.

I even got round to sandwiching it today, which I did in my usual slapdash manner.

Either way some simple sewing definitely helped today.

And me and little Knitwit did some baking today!

Here he is stirring flapjack mixture

And licking the bowl

With enthusiasm

And washing up! Stood on a bucket!

This little guy makes every day special!

Much love
