I'll rip it apart and stitch it back together...

Do you know what this is?

Well do you? No?

It's the peices of my Robert dress, yes that's right thepieces I ripped it apart yesterday.

Ripped it apart.

This was only the second actual garment I'd ever made and I was soooooo proud. It had seams and I ironed and I finished everything perfectly.

It also didn't fit well
Or suit me
Or feel comfortable to wear
And I didn't like wearing it, something I realised during OWOP.

So I tried to fix it:
I added darts, and a button and more darts.

But it still wasn't right,
I thought about doing a different skirt shape as the box pleats weren't exactly thrilling me (I drafted the skirt myself)

And then I thought what would I do if this was a cheap and nasty fabric and not the material for my grandad Roberts suit? I'd bin it, I'd throw that hot mess straight in the bin.

I haven't though instead I've carefully unpicked every seam (remember these are the ones I finished) with the intention of making a new better garment. Something to the same standard as the things I've been making recently (full credit to Tilly's book on being such a wonderful tutor) something I'd want to wear!

So at the minute I'm thinking either a cropped collarless jacket or a pencil skirt (maybe with a bow?) what do you think?

And stay tuned to see the Phoenix rise from the ashes!

Much love

Fitting!

Today has been busy!
Dropped lil Knitwit at nursery
Had a shower
Braved tesco in search of nappies!
Picked up lil Knitwit
Went to my old school to sign the condolences book for a sadly missed teacher
And then went to check in momma Knitwit!

Momma Knitwit suffered a fall yesterday (she does this quite often!) so me and lil Knitwit popped round to provide some cheering up and humour! And doughnuts we also took doughnuts!

Anyway I between my busyness I managed to fit in some fitting!

My Robert dress that I made AGES ago was in desperate need of some TLC! I actually couldn't wear it, like at all. I'm not sure if it's bad sewing (probably) lack of fitting skills (definitely) or the fact I seem to have lost a lil weight but now if needs work!

Due to having a new dummy I just worked off her (we are basically the same size !)

I'm sure I've not put the darts in the right places but at least ilm be able to wear it now ! And no I don't have any before photos! Too embarrassing! As you can see I'm also taking a good two inches off the hem!

And I think I'm going to change my ribbon back closure for a button. More security!

Hope this works! If not it'll be the unpickers for me!

Much love

OWOP Day 4

Oppsie this is a late one! Today I wore the Robert version of my simplicity 4070 and went for very preppy styling!

Dress - Robert version with box pleats, handmade!
Cardigan - select (used to wear this cardigan with nothing underneath and about five buttons done up when first got it! Some of my fashion choices make me cringe now!!! (By nothing I mean I did have a bra on! I'm not a complete tramp))
Shoes - primark imitation deck shoes! Given to me by mother in law!

I managed to convince myself that the three strand pearls made the outfit look like a costume!

Followed coco channels advice as always , always take off the last thing you put on. Good job pants go on first isn't it!!!

Much love
